Income & Expenses
Worked Example
On a take-home income of Rs. 150,000 a month, the 50/30/20 guideline gives Rs. 75,000 for needs, Rs. 45,000 for wants and Rs. 30,000 for savings or paying off debt.
How to Interpret the Result
The 50/30/20 split is a starting point, not a rule. If needs take more than half your income, trim wants first so that savings do not fall to zero.
Common Mistakes
Budgeting from gross salary instead of take-home pay. Forgetting yearly costs such as school fees, insurance and Eid spending: divide them by 12 and set that aside every month. Treating savings as whatever is left at the end of the month.
